There are very good notes on the MiniDSP website that explain how to set up and use the Units for your needs. Minidsp Umik-1 microphone (required for taking speaker/room measurements) £109 Inc. The HD version would be £240ish, remote control £10. Users on this forum say that Dirac Live is a worthwhile improvement.Ĭostwise, a non-HD 2x4 can be bought for £115 Inc. Both will also allow speaker and room equalisation but the non-HD is only 48Khz processing whereas the HD version is 96Khz and also allows the use of the Dirac Live correction software. As you know by now, I use a Minidsp 2x4HD unit but the cheaper non-HD unit would also do the job of creating a x-over between your Adams speakers and subs. Many streamers to choose from and more than one minidsp product to choose from too.
There are many ways to skin a cat, these days. Hi Dave, it was me that started 'the other thread' that you posted on.
If anyone can take the time to point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. At this stage I think I am really looking for an ‘overview’, both in terms of what I need, what it would cost and how I would go about making it happen. Ideally I would like to be able to set things up with a couple of settings, one that is nominally ‘correct’ and one with a little more warmth and body for low level listening.
I kind of understand how this would all connect together but, no real idea of what I would need to buy in terms of hardware and software and guidance as to what I would need to do to make this work. So, firstly is there any other suggestions that I should take a look at? I have considered the Yamaha WXC 50 as a cheaper alternative, the Cambridge CXN and even a s/h Naim UnitiQute. Any thoughts?Īlso the other thread brought up the option of using a Minidsp (basic or HD) model to control the crossover between my main speakers and my sub and of course to provide room correction. My budget is not fixed but I would prefer to keep costs in the £500-1500 region unless something truly exceptional comes along to change my mind. I considered a number of units, the Bluesound Node 2i being my preferred option but that could change. To this end I want a streamer/dac/preamp that can drive my Adam active speakers and BK Electronics subwoofer. By this I mean an effective, single control app for all everyday functions. My aim is a simple system that streams from an online resource, probably Spotify, that makes the best of the source material yet remains simple for the family to use. This follows on from a couple of questions and answers in another thread but it was suggested that, rather than derail an existing thread, it would be best to start a new topic.
